Performance Analyzer Technical Features

The Advisor

This feature provides a set of recommendations that suggest how the user can effect improvements in system performance on any processor in a System i network. The Advisor simplifies the task of interpreting the data generated from Performance Analyzer, and provides a speedy and effective means of highlighting existing and potential problem areas on each system.

Automatic Intelligent Data Collection

The Performance Analyzer automatically collects raw performance data at times and intervals specified by the user. All data can be viewed online immediately. Data is automatically summarized and condensed and raw data deleted to minimize disk utilization.

Comprehensive Network Support

The Performance Analyzer can be run on a single processor or on multiple System i machines in APPN & APPC networks. The product can be transmitted to and installed on remote machines from a central System i machine. Performance data is collected on all processors and can then be viewed locally and/or automatically or manually routed to a central System i machine to provide a central point of control.

Full Windows Implementation

The Performance Analyzer features a Windows-based PC interface which enables performance data to be viewed online and graphs to be prepared and printed.

Dynamic Resource Monitor

From a single PC screen, users can monitor, in real time, any System i machine in their network. This provides an immediate and easy to interpret view of multiple systems. Users are automatically alerted to problems caused when thresholds are exceeded by visual and audible alarms. More detailed data can then be obtained by drilling down through screens.

Graphic Presentation of Data

Performance Data can be displayed on the PC as a series of pre-defined graphs. These can be saved as either GIF or JPG files for use in documents and presentations.

High CPU Monitor

Users can optionally set the High CPU Monitor to detect, automatically, interactive and batch jobs using excessive CPU. The priority of these jobs can be altered dynamically, avoiding further performance problems.

Additional Data Monitoring

A LOCK analysis monitors object locking for the whole system. The Performance Analyzer optionally monitors communications line performance data, resource usage by user-defined user groups and I/O processor utilization.
