Print Manager Technical Features
Spool Management
Extensive features are available to modify output queues as required, including creating new queues, changing attributes of existing queues and working with spool files on the queue. Spool files can be viewed online and selected sections of reports cut and pasted into new reports. Files can also be copied between output queues. Scanning facilities enable spool files to be searched for text strings. There is also a simplified authority system which controls access to output queues.
Archiving
A flexible and reliable means of archiving and restoring spool files. Archives can be kept online in OS/400® Save Files for easy restoring, or removed from the system completely by moving to offline storage media. Full automatic backup cycle management facilities are provided and restored spool files are identical to the original.
Distribution
Spool files can be sent to any output queue on any machine in a System i network. Templates can be created for regular distributions or output can be distributed on an ad hoc basis.
Split
Spool files can be divided into several new reports and passed to the distribution module for shipping across the network. Multiple copies of report sections can be created for multiple users at multiple destinations.
Electronic Document Management
System i spool files are converted into documents, using a flexible, automatic process and stored in compressed form. The documents are indexed, for instance by customer name, invoice number and account number, for fast, flexible retrieval. Users access and view these documents online, in WYSIWYG format, via a comprehensive document viewer. Extensive security facilities prevent unauthorised access to sensitive documents.
