OVERVIEW

Columbus Z is an output management solution that allows users to send mainframe documents from the JES spool to any printer in a multi-platform systems landscape including z/Linux, UNIX, IBM i and Windows.

Columbus Z controls the z/OS mainframe output management environment to drive maximum value from your existing print infrastructure. Non-mainframe applications can make use of high-speed mainframe-attached printers, and vice versa: documents can be transferred off the mainframe to low-cost PCL printers. This approach minimizes the need for investment in new printer hardware.

Seamless integration with the rest of the Columbus suite makes mainframe printing an integral part of your enterprise document management and delivery infrastructure.

KEY FEATURES

  • Management and control
Automated print recovery in the event of a printer failure helps reduce the number of print-related helpdesk calls while increasing operational efficiency and user productivity
  • Bi-directional cross-platform printing
Reports and other documents can be transferred seamlessly between VM, z/OS, z/Linux, UNIX, IBM i and Windows platforms, over existing SNA or TCP/IP networks
  • Multi-channel delivery
The Columbus Z OPEN feature automatically transfers mainframe-generated documents to Columbus Central, Columbus DW and Columbus OM for digital delivery, online presentment and open systems output management
  • Document splitting and bundling
Documents such as reports can be split to ensure end users only receive those pages that are relevant, or bundled to create new composite documents, without the need to modify the original documents or the applications that generate them
  • Document archiving
Older documents can be archived automatically to Columbus DW and viewed using the feature-rich Columbus DW browser and Windows interfaces
  • Production printing
Both AFP and non-AFP documents can be printed on IPDS printers to allow more effective use of high-speed printers
  • Distributed printing
AFP documents can be printed on networked printers by converting IBM AFP spool files and resources to PCL data streams in real time
  • Host connectivity
The Columbus Z CONNECT feature provides a simple mechanism for automatically transferring mainframe-generated spool files to external server-based products, such as third party archiving and production printing software
  • NATURAL/CICS interface
An interface with NATURAL/CICS enables easy creation of documents, which are routed to the JES spool for further composition and/or distribution
